Dell PowerVault TL2000 Tape Library
Simple, automated, affordable
The PowerVault™ TL2000 tape library offers simple and affordable tape automation for organizations whose data-protection needs have outgrown autoloader technology. It's the solution of choice for small- and medium-sized businesses that require affordable, easy-to-use, automated tape backup and archiving.
- 2U solution that can be rack mounted or easily converted into a desktop solution
- Web-based remote management: perform diagnostics, check status, monitor operations and logs, and upgrade firmware
- Library-managed encryption (optional with LTO4 and LTO5 only)
Automated Data Protection
Regular, disciplined backup is a vital part of a comprehensive disaster recovery strategy. The PowerVault™ TL2000 is a powerful tape library that helps organizations automate their backup processes to reduce the need for manual intervention and the risk of human error. The PowerVault™ TL2000 uses the optical cartridge location technology for precision cartridge handling and inventory, which helps improve the overall reliability of backups.
Support for Your Dell Internet SCSI (iSCSI) Storage Area Network (SAN)
To supplement the growth in iSCSI SANs, Dell has introduced an iSCSI-to-SAS bridge card for the TL-series tape libraries (Dell PowerVault TL2000 and TL4000). This solution allows users to directly attach a tape backup target to an iSCSI 1 Gb Ethernet SAN utilizing little to no degradation in transfer speed, 90 MB/s in most cases. Additionally, the iSCSI-to-SAS bridge card is fully compatible with Dell PowerVault M3000i and Dell EquaLogic™ PS iSCSI array series.
Tapes can be imported and exported individually using a mail slot or twelve at a time using one of two magazines. The library utilizes barcode-scanning technology to record the location of tape media, so you can be assured that your critical data is properly stored and ready in case disaster strikes.
An on-board, user-friendly LCD interface allows you to easily monitor, control, configure and service the library. While you are away, the tape library enables you to remotely administer all functions, including system status and logs, diagnostics and drive operations, as well as configuration and inventory management features.
The low cost for tape combined with its long history of proven reliability helps ensure its continued use for both backup and archiving. The portability of tape allows it to be taken off-site and stored in a vault. In addition, LTO-5, LTO-4 and LTO-3 tape technology supports WORM (Write-Once-Read-Many) capability which allows permanent data storage that cannot be overwritten to help meet compliance regulations.
Big Capacity — Small Space
With its ultra-compact form-factor, the PowerVault TL2000 packs an impressive amount of information in a small amount of space. Occupying only two units (2U) of rack space, the library can hold up to 24 tapes providing up to 36TB (with Ultrium LTO-5 1.5TB tapes) of native capacity—ideal for small office environments managing explosive data growth.
Ultrium Linear Tape-Open (LTO) Performance
The PowerVault TL2000 supports Ultrium LTO-5 drives—a high-speed tape technology that can natively back up an impressive 504GB of data per hour. LTO technology is based on a tape industry standard that specifies backward read-and-write compatibility with LTO-5 & LTO-4 generation media(n,n-1) and read compatibility with LTO-3(n-2) media.
Be Green With Tape
When factoring in the features and benefits of tape storage — such as reliability, portability, encryption (Linear Tape-Open Ultrium 4 [LTO4] and Linear Tape-Open Ultrium 5 [LTO5]) and the shelf life (over 20 years) of tape cartridges — tape storage is the perfect solution for your long term or short term backup or archiving needs. In addition, when tape media is stored, it does not require energy until it needs to be accessed. By using zero energy when stored, tape is naturally green.
Simple, Automated, Affordable
You know the value, convenience, and security that tape libraries bring to backup and archiving strategies — and now, Dell puts it all within the reach of your organization. Dell's PowerVault TL2000 Tape Library offers simple and affordable tape automation for organizations whose data-protection needs have outgrown autoloader technology. It is the solution of choice for small and medium businesses that require affordable, easy-to-use, automated tape backup.
Now your organization can enjoy the benefits of hands-off, around-the-clock operation. With an ease and cost-effectiveness not available in tape autoloaders, you can help free up IT resources, minimize human error, back up data quickly and predictably, create off-site archive copies of data to meet compliance requirements, and bolster your disaster-recovery strategy.
Help free up resourcse and improve reliabilty
Free yourself from the inconvenience of manual involvement in backup and recovery. Dell PowerVault™ TL series tape libraries contain multiple slots for storing tape media and use a robotic mechanism to move media automatically allowing for unattended and independent operation. To keep contents properly organized, a bar code reader inventories and tracks all tapes stored in the library. PowerVault TL2000 tape libraries feature an optical cartridge-location technology for precision cartridge handling and inventory.
Many data-protection challenges — One simple solution
The PowerVault TL2000 tape library enables two critical dataprotection activities: backup and archiving.
Backup: Create on-site backup copies of data, using the rewritable functionality of LTO media. Many industry-standard backup software offerings are tested and validated to run smoothly on TL series tape libraries.
Archiving: Create permanent, portable archive copies of data using WORM (Write Once, Read Many) capability. WORM enables you to create data copies that cannot be overwritten, to help you comply with government and industry data-protection requirements. Tape media is easily portable — it lets you affordably archive your important data offsite to enhance your disaster-recovery strategy.
Simplicity, from the start
PowerVault TL2000 tape libraries are compact, easily customer-installable, and connect to a server or a SAN. The PowerVault TL2000 features an intuitive operator control panel, plus remote Web management — you can perform setup and diagnostics, check status, monitor operations and logs, and upgrade firmware all from any standard Web browser.
The right capacity and features for your organization
The PowerVault TL2000 tape library is delivered ready to rack mount, and packs tremendous capacity into a small package: up to 36TB in only two units of rack space. The PowerVault TL2000 tape library is a 2U solution that holds up to 24 tapes for a native capacity of up to 36TB with LTO-5 tape media. LTO-5 backs up a staggering 504GB per hour per drive or 1008GB with 2 drives, making the PowerVault TL2000 tape library ideal for growing data-protection needs. Library Managed Encryption is available with LTO-4 and LTO-5 technology for added security. The PowerVault TL series also retains the backward read-and-write compatibility with the prior generation of LTO and read compatibility with two generations back.
Dell's PowerVault TL2000 Tape Library changes the economic of storage
If your backup requirements have outgrown autoloader technology, the PowerVault TL2000 tape library is the ideal next step. Now you can enjoy the ease and affordability of an autoloader with the performance, capacity, and reliability of a tape library.
Support for your Dell iSCSI SAN
To supplement the growth in iSCSI SANs, Dell has introduced an iSCSI-to-SAS bridge card for the TL-series tape libraries (Dell PowerVault TL2000 & TL4000). This solution allows users to add in a tape backup target to an iSCSI 1Gb Ethernet SAN utilizing little to no degradation in transfer speed, 90Mb/s in most cases.
