2U single-socket AMD EPYC rack server built around drive density and sustained throughput
The 2U, one-socket PowerEdge R5715 is built around storage capacity and I/O expandability, offering twelve 3.5-inch drive bays without the cost or licensing overhead of a dual-socket platform.
The Dell PowerEdge R5715 is powered by a 5th Generation AMD EPYC 9005 Series processor, 24 DDR5 DIMM slots, NVMe BOSS-N1 and iDRAC10.
Ideal for:
The PowerEdge R5715 is a 2U, single-socket rack server built on the 5th Generation AMD EPYC 9005 Series platform. Where its 1U sibling, the PowerEdge R4715, fits eight 2.5-inch or four 3.5-inch drives, the R5715 takes twelve 3.5-inch SAS/SATA drives — three times the large-form-factor count in twice the rack space. Alternatively you can configure sixteen 2.5-inch bays where a higher spindle count and smaller failure domain matter more.
That makes the R5715 a natural fit for the workloads that consume capacity rather than cores: backup and recovery targets, file serving, capacity tiers behind a primary array, and retail or campus video surveillance where days of retention drive the sizing. A single processor with up to 32 cores is more than sufficient to keep those workloads fed, and it keeps both the acquisition cost and the per-core licensing bill down.
Capacity alone is not enough for a backup target — ingest and restore windows depend just as much on the network and controller path. The R5715 carries four full-height PCIe Gen5 x16 slots, one more than the R4715, plus two OCP NIC 3.0 slots, so 25 GbE networking can be fitted alongside a PERC H965i without contending for the same expansion budget.
Boot is handled by a dedicated BOSS-N1 module, keeping the operating system isolated from the data pool. That separation matters on a capacity platform: the array can be rebuilt, re-tiered or reconfigured without disturbing the boot volume.
The R5715 is an air-cooled platform, avoiding the facilities investment that liquid-cooled servers require. Up to six hot-plug fans sustain airflow across a fully populated drive plane, while Platinum and Titanium power supplies at 800 W and 1100 W, with Fault Tolerant Redundancy, support both efficiency and uptime.
Security is integrated into every phase of the PowerEdge lifecycle, including protected supply chain and factory-to-site integrity assurance. The Silicon-based root of trust anchors end-to-end boot resilience while Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and role-based access controls safeguard trusted operations. For a platform holding backup copies, Secure Erase and Data at Rest Encryption with self-encrypting drives protect data through the full retirement lifecycle.

The Dell PowerEdge R5715 puts twelve 3.5-inch drive bays behind a single socket, reducing acquisition cost, per-core licensing exposure and energy draw at the same time.
The Dell PowerEdge R5715 is a 2U, one-socket rack server built around drive density and sustained throughput. It shares the processor, memory architecture and iDRAC10 management stack of the 1U R4715, then trades rack density for bays and PCIe slots.
